CARDIOVASCULAR


Jose Luis Assad, MD graduated from the University
of Nuevo Leon Medical School at Monterrey, Mexico,
with Suma Cum Laude honors. From 1963 to 1965
he made fellowships at the University of Georgetown
in Washington, D.C., Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, and John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. From 1967 to 1969 he made his residency on internal medicine at Salvador Zubiran National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition in Mexico City.

 

Later, Dr. Assad came to the U.S. for a second residency on internal medicine at the Mayo Clinic in
Rochester, Minnesota (1969–72). From 1972 to 1975
he continued his residency on cardiology at the Mayo
Clinic, having several works published on ultrasound
diagnosis for cardiovascular diseases, bypass grafts
and coronary atherosclerosis.

 

After 9 years, he returned to Monterrey where he has occupied positions including Chief of the cardiac division of Hospital Universitario – University of Nuevo Leon Medical School (1978 to 1983) and Head of the department of Vascular and Cardiac Procedures at the Health Science Division of Monterrey Tech and its medical School (“San Jose Hospital”) for ten years from 1984 until 1994.

 

Dr. Assad has been working at the Christus Muguerza Group since 1995 as the director of the cardiovascular disease division. In 2004, the Heart Institute was created at Christus Muguerza, where Dr. Assad continues to be the headmaster.

 

Dr. Assad has numerous academic affiliations including his roles as President of Internal Medicine at the Association of Nuevo Leon, Director and Board Counselor of the Medical Center of Specialties, Board Counselor of Monterrey University, President of the Mexican Cardiology Society and he is also a Member of the Mexican Government Board of Cardiology.

 

In addition, He is affiliated with The American Collage of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Intervention, the American College of Physicians, the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Society of Echocardiography, the International Society of Endovascular Specialists and the International Society of Cardiovascular Interventionists.

 

Dr. Assad has published more than 40 works on national and international magazines, 4 books and several papers related to the use of endovascular therapy in the treatment of peripheral vascular diseases.
