CARDIOTHORACIC SURGERY


Lucas Ponce, MD graduated from the University of
Nuevo León Medical School in Monterrey, México in
1967. In 1969 he accepted a Straight Surgical Internship at Ben Taub General Hospital / Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. In 1970 Dr. Ponce served in the U.S. Army at Darnall Army Hospital in Ft. Hood, Texas and in the following years served as a USMC Trauma Surgeon in Vietnam. Following his military service, he completed residency in General Surgery at Wesley Medical Center located in Wichita, Kansas from 1972 to1976.

 

Dr. Ponce has been specializing in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery since 1977. He was appointed Chief of General Surgery and Chief of Medical Staff at the Hospital San José de Monterrey in 1982. In 1988 Dr. Ponce was named Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Hospital San José de Monterrey and became a Member of the State of Nuevo Leon, Mexico Transplant Committee.

 

Since then, Dr. Ponce has served on numerous medical committees and been a professor of surgery at two of the major universities in Monterrey. Currently he works at Christus Muguerza Hospital as a
Member of the Shock Trauma Team and as a Member of the Surgical Staff.
