Who May Consider Hip Replacement or Resurfacing Surgery
You may consider Total Hip Replacement or Hip Resurfacing surgery if you experience one or more of the following:

  • Hip pain that has failed to respond to conservative therapy (including medication, injections, and physical therapy for 6 months or more);
  • Hip pain that limits or prevents activities of importance to the patient;
  • Arthritis of the hip (demonstrated by X ray or MRI); or
  • Decreased hip function caused by arthritis.

You don't need to live with pain if you can't afford $50,000 to $55,000 for your hip surgery at a local private hospital.  Find out how hundreds of patients have returned to full mobility and relieved their pain with cost effective high quality surgery at one of Global MD’s partners.

The Hip Replacement Procedure
Your surgeon will remove the damaged portion of the joint from the bone surface and then reshape the surface to hold the artificial joint.  Your new artificial joint is then affixed to the surrounding bone.  Together, the artificial parts form the joint, functioning and supporting your body with the help of the surrounding muscles and ligaments.
After a period of recovery and physical therapy, most patients return to full mobility within 6 to 10 weeks, walking and enjoying most physical activities.

The Hip Resurfacing Procedure
In Hip Resurfacing, only part of the hip joint is replaced.  When the damage to the hip is limited to one part of the hip joint the other part of it is spared to a greater extent. The severely damaged part of the hip joint is hence replaced.

An advantage of this procedure over total hip replacement is that it’s done through minimum invasion causing far less damage to the tissue cells.  Thus, you may be able to return to your normal lifestyle faster.  Hip Resurfacing patients enjoy over a 99% success rate, ideal for younger and active people who return to the activities they love.  Only you and your surgeon can decide which procedure is right for you.

Planning Your Hip Replacement or Hip Resurfacing Procedure Made Easy
Should you decide to have your Hip Replacement or Resurfacing surgery facilitated by Global MD, a dedicated Care Coordinator will assist you with the selection of a premier orthopedic surgeon and arrange for you to have a telephone consultation with your chosen surgeon.  Together, you and your surgeon will talk about your medical history, expected results following surgery, and your treatment options.  During your phone consultation, you and your surgeon will also discuss in detail how you should prepare for surgery.  Your surgeon will give you a detailed plan to follow in the weeks and days before surgery.

Healthy Recovery
Although the length of time needed in the destination country will ultimately be determined by you and your surgeon, and will vary depending on individual circumstances, patients are usually able to return home 14 days after their surgery and a necessary physical therapy cycle managed by your surgeon.

Value-Based Pricing

As with recovery time, the cost of a Hip Replacement and Resurfacing surgery at a Global MD partner facility will vary depending on individual factors and your choice of surgeon.  However, the Hip Replacement and Resurfacing procedures usually costs from $8,000 to $20,000.
