Medical Tourist's Bill of Rights
What does the Bill of Rights mean to Global MD’s clients? Global MD’s creation of and adherence to The Medical Tourists Bill of Rights means that Global MD’s patients can be sure that they will be treated with respect and fairness at each step of their medical journey to better health. Improved patient health will always be at the center of Global MD’s mission and purpose. Unless the international healthcare facilitator strictly observes the Healthcare Traveler’s Bill of Rights, patients cannot be sure that their interests, privacy and healthcare are being properly safeguarded.
- Healthcare Travelers have the same rights to privacy and transparency as a patient who elects to receive treatment in the United States.
- Healthcare Travelers have the right to have access to appropriate high-quality healthcare.
- Healthcare Travelers have the right to be dealt with respectfully and transparently by their medical tourism service agency.
- Healthcare Travelers have the right to easily and quickly access accurate, timely and relevant information about their healthcare, medical service options, healthcare facilities and caretakers. Patients who experience a language barrier or for some other reason do not understand something about their healthcare as explained have the right to assistance sufficient to enable the patient to make an informed decision.
- Medical tourism patients have the right to receive emergency screening and stabilization in the case of the sudden onset of pain, injury or illness without authorization or financial penalty.
- Medical tourism patients have the right to know about and understand their treatment options and participate in decisions about their care. Patients have the right to designate family members, guardians and other appointed individuals to represent them if he or she cannot make their own decisions.
- Medical tourism patients have the right to non-discriminatory and respectful care from all healthcare providers and facilitators.
- Medical tourism patients have the right to discuss health matters in confidence with healthcare providers and to have their information protected. Patients have the right to review and retain a copy of any records kept by a healthcare provider or facilitator and request changes to the file if something is found to be inaccurate or incomplete.
- Medical tourism patients have the right to be heard to complain about any healthcare provider or facilitator for any reason in a fast, fair and convenient forum.
